ISO 9001 is a quality management system standard. That phrase deserves unpacking, because each word does work. Management system means it governs how the organization runs—how work instructions are written, how staff are trained, how records are kept, how problems are escalated. Quality here means conformance to defined requirements, not excellence in the marketing sense. A factory can be ISO 9001 certified while making a product with a modest specification, provided it makes that modest product consistently and to its own documented standard.
This is exactly why the certificate is misread in both directions. Buyers who treat it as a quality guarantee are disappointed when a certified supplier ships a poor product. Buyers who dismiss it as paperwork miss what it genuinely provides: traceability. When something goes wrong, a certified factory can tell you which batch, which materials, which operators, and which inspection results were involved. An uncertified one frequently cannot, and that difference determines whether a defect is contained in one shipment or discovered across three.
What the certificate does guarantee

1. Work instructions at the station
Each operation has a written instruction available where the work happens, not filed in an office. When a new operator joins, the instruction is the training baseline, which is what keeps output consistent across shifts and across years.
2. Incoming material control

Electric grooming devices combine three failure-prone elements in a small housing: a cutting system with tight tolerances, a motor, and in many models a water seal. A blade pair mismatched by a small amount pulls hair rather than cutting it. A seal applied inconsistently passes on the bench and fails at a customer’s sink.
